We all crave attention.
Come on it’s true. We crave it so
much we blog. We teach. We sometimes make fools of ourselves, but we
always crave attention. That’s why I
love teaching…It’s a constant audience for me.
I love it when my owlets laugh at my jokes or tell me that I have the
best ideas in the whole world, or that they love it when I sing “opera style!” I love it when another blogger notices me and gives me an award! Thank you Sara! You are now over 100!
I love Sara's owl and her blog! Go like her...You'll be glad you did! |
I have always enjoyed
being in the limelight. At an early age
I thought I’d like to be a stand-up comedian.
Seriously. My favorite joke? What goes ha-ha-ha plop? Read on I’ll tell you the punch line later.
If I tell you now you’ll laugh so hard that you won’t be able to read through
this post… I don’t want to lose my audience.
I did lose my audience once. When
I was four years old my sister was born.
She was much cuter than I was. I
was supposed to be the baby, but that only lasted four years before number six
child showed up. There are five people
out there who look a lot like me, talk a lot like me and who I love to
entertain. I can actually thank my
little sister today for contributing to the person I am. I had to work harder to be noticed when all
that cuteness was around.
I always thought I’d like to be a motivational speaker. I’m not sure what I’d motivate
people to do, though. Maybe remove
wallpaper from walls. I’ve gotten pretty
good at it and actually enjoy it because I get to listen to my thoughts very
well when I’m all alone in my house doing it.
My kids don’t want to be anywhere around because I can’t motivate them
to help me get the job done. I can’t
even motivate them to clean their rooms.
Maybe I could motivate people to cook delicious meals. I have a couple “go to” recipes that my family
love so much that they invite people over so I’ll be motivated to cook them. I even have a signature dish. It’s called “Jenny Chicken” It’s actually
called Spicy Chinese Chicken Fettuccine, but it’s easier to just say Jenny
Chicken! I made it last night for
company, so it’s on my mind. I’m only sharing
it with you. Shhh…Don’t tell the others.

Perhaps I’ll motivate people to go out and look at
birds. Wait a second. I already do
that! I love taking groups of people on
bird walks. I even have a blog devoted
to birds or other things natural. I started watching birds at the age of 6
months. I would take all my toys out of
the toy box, crawl into the box and look at an old bird guide of my mom’s. Yes, birding is an inherited disorder!
Everyone in my family loves a good bird!
As you can tell I love attention that’s why I felt so
honored when I was awarded the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you, Sara for bestowing this honor on

I think teaching very much takes stand-up comedian skills. You have to have good timing, if you're losing your audience you have to change your approach and have to know how to handle hecklers! :)
ReplyDeleteNotJustChild'sPlay
I agree! You do have to be careful. Your audience has high expectations!

Congratulations on your award. Your chicken dish looks yummy! =)

Very fun post! I think you could have been a stand up comic! I'll have to share your joke with my 9 year old, she'll love it!
ReplyDeleteKelly @ I'm Not Your Grandpa, I'm Your Teacher
I laughed the whole time I wrote it. I have a constant blog post running through my head and sometimes I have to write it down! I was probably 9 when I heard that joke. Another favorite is, "Why did the toilet paper roll down the hill?" Let me know if you want to know the punch-line!

Jenny, remember when seven people at the dinner table would groan when you started to tell a joke and then when you finished try in silence to figure out why you thought it was funny? Practice really DOES make perfect! xooox
ReplyDeleteI have made some improvements over the years, but sometimes I'm still the only one laughing at my jokes! Love you!

This post was a hoot! LOL What is the name of the bird in the picture? My neighbor is an avid bird watcher and photographer and he's taught my boys so much! I'm your newest follower! Lauren
ReplyDeleteTeacher Mom of 3
That bird is one of my favorites and your neighbor would love to his picture. He is a male Pileated Woodpecker. They are very elusive. On this particular day he was defending his territory from another male. I was able to get both their pictures, but this was my favorite because you don't see them on the ground very often. They make HUGE rectangular holes in trees. Thanks for asking...I love talking about birds! I'm glad we're following each other!
