I'm linking up with Farley for Currently August...On TIME!! Did you know that if you like
Oh' Boy 4th Grade on Facebook you get a head start? It is so easy to get the download from her, too! Oh boy, thank you, Farley!!
Tomorrow is the day my daughter's life takes a new turn. May I take a proud Mama moment? After graduating with honors and two majors Mars (the girl not the planet!) was accepted into the doctoral program at Washington U in St. Louis. In five years she'll have her PhD. in Chemistry. She has always been a science nut and gave herself the nickname Mars at the tender age of three. Her dream would probably be able to travel into space or even back to Ireland. She loves to travel! I'm listening to the sewing machine because she is making a quilt based on the Periodic Table. Her is what it looks like so far...

Yes...She is a nerd! |
I had a playdate this week so my class could check out our new space. It was so much fun to just play with my old/new students. I'm looping with my first grade class this year. We had a wormed themed hour and a half that went way too fast! After reading
this (Freebie Alert) book three times one of my students said, "This is great! Who writes this stuff?" It MADE MY DAY!!
If you want the whole packet of wormy activities or you want to contribute to my desk buying fund you can go buy the
whole packet at TPT! The graphics on this project were done especially for me by my new friend
Poppydreamz. I LOVE what she did! We're working on another project together right now, too which I'm even more excited about!
|
I finally got to learn how to play Ga-Ga Ball! |
|
I know this looks messy. We colored worms and then painted over them with "dirt" because worms need dirt! |
|
The shells are really a game board designed by one of my students!
We used dice and Lego guys to move to the finish line. |
Look at these desks! They wobble. They tip. They are old. They don't stay up. I'm trying to think of some creative ways to get new ones...Any ideas?
I'm off to help the packer! Have a great month!
Congrats to your daughter...a PhD in chemistry? Wow...that is impressive. As for desks that wobble.. I have no advice.... but will be watching this post to see if others do - it is so annoying!

Yes, she is a nerd. But that is such a great thing!!! Even though I was never a chemistry person I kinda sorta love that quilt, lol.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE your worm ideas. I have red wigglers in my room right now.

You Might Be a First Grader….
I actually had some red wigglers come for a visit once! The kids loved them. We had a visitor that came and talked to us about compost. Thanks for visiting!

Love your worm book. I added it to my collection of worm stuff. I am so excited that we have new desks and new chairs waiting for us in your classroom. I think the ones we had were made in the 60s!!! Hope you find a solution to your desk problem. :-(

I love that quilt! Your daughter must be amazing. We have a ga-ga pit at school that our Grade 6's fundraised and built. I love your post and blog so I have just had to start following you.

Congrats to your daughter!!! That's great!!!! I had desks just like too:) I saw on Pinterest where they put some sort of drawer container in the middle of the group with books piled on it. It looked really neat:)

1...2...3...Teach With Me
Congratulations to your daughter! And I love her quilt :)
ReplyDeleteHave you considered trying http://www.donorschoose.org/ to raise funds for new desks?
Congratulations to your daughter! That is AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteGrrrr...wobbly desks!!!! What about using zip ties (??) to attach layers of foam squares to get all legs to the same height? Super annoying job, but maybe will help in the end??
Growing Firsties
Wow! Congratulations to you and your daughter! What an accomplishment! That periodic table quilt is adorable. She should see those on Etsy. This year I learned how to play ga ga for the first time at 5th grade science camp. What a game!!!! MY kids could play for hours. The court we played on was dusty and we didn't spray it down so we were covered in head to toe dirt! Do you have a ga ga court at your school? My students were begging me to petition the admin to build an enclosure at school. Glad I found your fun blog.

I LOVE her quilt! I used to love chemistry, but not enough to get anything in it. :) Have fun in St. Louis! And.... what a GREAT idea to have a "playdate". Do you still have an open house or meet the teacher? I love the idea of calling it a playdate. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the GREAT idea.
Desk solutions...... hmmm..... lap desks? :)
