Technology Tuesday!

I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' once again for Teacher's Week. Today is Technology Tuesday.

The greatest technology class I ever had in high school was typewriter keyboarding. It was a class I loved and practiced and excelled in. There weren't computers in high school and there weren't any in college either. I made a couple of dollars typing papers for other students. Those lessons I learned in high school have served me well!

My first meeting with a computer was the Apple IIE. A friend showed it to me and I was not so impressed and thought it was a passing fad. Two years later I had one in my classroom and I was hooked!

Today, my students are more savvy with technology than I was my first years of teaching. At first grade they can surf the web pretty well. They know how to find movies on Netflix,  and use apps on their parent's smartphones.

What hasn't changed is children's need to connect with each other and with loving adults in their lives. The ability to make lasting relationships is as important now as it was when I was a kid. I don't have a lot of technology in my classroom and I can't say I want to have a whole lot more.  Sometimes I think technology takes away a child's ability to imagine, create and daydream. Being "bored" gives children the time to find creative ways to fill gaps of time. My technology of choice is probably a blank piece of paper and a pencil. Let them draw, imagine, and create.

Don't get me wrong. I do feel there is a place for technology in the classroom. My favorite fee site is :
Click on it and check it out!

If you want to pay a bit of money, or if your district has heavy pockets, this is the subscription that you don't want to miss out on:

Ticket to Read builds fluency, and phonics skills. I love it and use it with all of my students. I can hardly wait to give them their log in information on the first day of school. The first day is coming soon, so I better get to bed! No matter how much technology we have, we still all need our eight hours!

Must Haves Monday

I'm linking up this week with Blog Hoppin'!
School hasn't started yet, but I'm thinking I MUST HAVE a vacation coming soon! Actually, I think school starting will be a bit of a vacation...at least from my chauffeuring job! Trying to juggle a car between three drivers has been a  little trying at times this summer.
Here are some things this teacher must have:
1. Paper...I love all kinds of paper! My collection keeps growing and my favorite thing to do with it is make things with my Cricut!
I made this with a Stampin' Up punch!

2. My Cricut is a must have. I keep it set up and ready to go at all times in my craft room. My daughter loves to help me make things for my classroom using it, too!
A peek at my Word Wall!

3. COFFEE! I love the stuff.  I can't start a day without it. I really want a Keurig, but I haven't been able to justify it...Yet!  I do have a birthday coming up!

4. I must have MyMemories Software. I tried using Adobe Photoshop, but It was just too complicated for me. I use MyMemories to make games, bookmarks, nametags...You get the idea!

5. I must have my Bible! Yep!! I couldn't get through a day without it. Some might call it a crutch, and that's fine. I am handicapped by sin! I am amazed by the power, love and wisdom God's word has for me. I probably should have made that my number 1 Must Have, because Only With the Lords Strength can I do anything!
Tomorrow I'll be back with a technology tip...If I can think of one! Thanks for spending time with me!

SSShhhhh! I have a secret and a FREEBIE!

Can you keep a secret? If you can then read on...I have a couple to tell you. If you can't keep a secret please stop now and visit my friend Kimberly over at First in Maine. You'll be refreshed by her blueberries and get some great ideas for what you may want to read next.

Now that I know I have your attention and you have pinky sworn not to tell a soul what I am about to tell you, I'm ready to reveal a secret.

The information that you've seen, heard, and read about "that" pencil sharpener is absolutely true. It is really that amazing. I'm not sure I want word to get out because I'm planning on ordering some as Christmas gifts and I don't want to have to wait too long. If everyone knows what I know, about this pencil sharpener, several things will happen. The price will go up because it is worth far more than it is currently priced at. They will sell out and mine will be the ones that are on back order.

I had to hide the sharpener from them and
have them cut laminated stuff instead!
I have to tell you that it is NOT the quietest classroom sharpener. When ever anyone sharpens a pencil all I hear is, "WOW!" or "Oh my gosh! Look how sharp this pencil is!" or "My turn!" There is nothing to be quiet about when it comes to this pencil sharpener. Everyone is begging to use it and I can't hear the sharpener over the excitement of the faculty as they crowd into my room to wait their turn to use MY sharpener. I should have kept this a secret. As I'm trying to get my room ready for school teacher after teacher shows up to borrow my sharpener. Now I'm begging you... don't tell a soul.

My daughter and her BFF came to school to help me. They almost ended their friendship fighting over who would get to sharpen pencils. I had to come up with some other creative things for them to do to preserve their friendship.

Please don't tell anyone about "that" pencil sharpener.

Ready for secret number two? I made labels for my shared supplies to help my owlets know where they belong. To help us tell which items are community items, I've put some matching mustache duct tape on each item.

Now, because you are a dear friend and a follower, I'm sharing these labels with you. If you want to go to TPT you can buy them, but why not just click here or on the picture below and get them free?

You can go ahead and pin if you'd like, but please don't tell anyone my secrets. Remember we pinky swore!!

Go here to see "that" sharpener! Shhhh!
I'm linking up...Go check out more great freebies!

Back to School Linky Party

Back to School Jitters Linky Party

This linky party really caught my eye. I LOVE Lego guys! I get those little mystery packs and get them when ever I see them on sale. I have a nice little collection and use them for different things during the year. You'll have to wait and see.  You can come back every day until I finally post some of my Lego guy activities!

Do you have any back to school jitters? I know that once the calendar said August, time started flying. I have just gotten used to getting up a couple of hours before my kids, having a cup of coffee, surfing through blogs and now vacation is basically over. I do have the jitters. I always do. What if I forget how to teach? What if I can't find my way to school? What if I can't remember what the first day of school is? YIKES!!

What I need is a party. I'm going to the party Ms. Jessica is hosting. She has really good snacks and rules. Hop on over and check out this party. It's a BYOB! Grab your beverage and link up!

One more day to enter my give away! Few have entered many will win!!

Monday Made-It!

Today was the first day I got into my classroom and started putting things in order. I'm going from desks to tables this year and rearranging where everything, but my desk is because my desk is too heavy for me to move!

I know it looks like a horrid mess, but this represents love to me! I've been trying to create the worlds largest tape ball. Each day students from the school bring me tape that has been removed from various projects around the school to add to my collection. They marvel at the size the ball has grown to and are excited to think about how big it will get! I can't wait to see last years owlets bringing me their little offerings of love to add to the collection. I'll be binding this mass up with some tape to keep it all together before school begins in two weeks. Don't worry this isn't what I made for today's Made It!

Here is the first thing I made! It's amazing I got much done at school because one of the people I like talking to most in the whole wide world was there. The kindergarten teacher and I worked hard to keep our own space, but we both wandered in and out of each other's rooms  for "Brain Breaks"!
Then I saw this on facebook and I had to make a cupcake coffee run! The Shot-in-the-Dark with rich chocolate cupcake filled and topped with Vanilla Buttercream, and dipped in a Chocolate Ganache made
a very satisfying lunch!

Wipe away the drool...This was my
cupcake! I drank the coffee for you, Tara!
Back to what I made after having that shot of caffeine! I finished the schedule I have posted in my room. I made the owl clocks with my Cricut and added a clock face to their fronts. I can easily change the times and activities according to the day. I had this extra pocket chart tucked away in a closet and decided I either needed to use it or give it away. I'm so glad I found a use for it!

The animals for each letter of the alphabet is my pride and joy. I love paper. I love it's color and texture. I love putting different patterns and colors together to create homemade items. With each animal that I made, I was sure that it was my favorite. I'm giving a set away and keeping a set for myself.
This is all 26!
Here is a little test for you! Can you guess which animals these are?
I start with the letter U!

I start with the letter X!

Leave a comment below telling me what you think is the name of those two animals. One lucky comment will be chosen to win a 10 inch paper owl! Be sure to comment before next Monday! I'll send it out next Monday!!

Only a couple days are left in my giveaway! You could win the complete set of animals A-Z!

Coming soon to a winner near you!

My Memories and Some GiveAways!

My brakes are ready
to go again!

I love this guy! There isn't much
he can't fix. I'm so blessed!

Good morning, afternoon or evening, friends! It is the beginning of a new week full of possibilities, activities and I hope joy! I don't know about you, but I love getting back into a routine and somewhat predictable schedule! I'm ready to move on to a new week. I hope this one is without necessary car repairs or sad news. I still have two weeks before I'll see my students in their places with bright shiny faces!

Have you heard of MyMemories? It is a great way to save and share your memories. The possibilities are endless for what you can make and share. I have been using MyMemories to make the pictures on my blog and facebook page pop. If you like what you see you will want to enter my giveaway going on  right now. This is a series of pictures I've made and posted on facebook. They highlight the animals I'm making for each letter of the alphabet. One of the animals will go on my word wall and one might be mailed to YOU!
