Currently: October

Well, hello! I am not quite ready to stop blogging all together. I do have an appreciation for people who can continue with a blog for more than two years! I wish I had that excitement I did when I first started. . . Sigh... I am thankful for Farley and the opportunity to share what I'm doing currently!

Yep! My husband usually does all the weekend cooking. He tries new recipes that are really healthy and yummy! After twenty-six years, I still love that guy and would say, "I do!" all over again!

Oh. My. Goodness! This year's class is a hoot! They love learning and get excited about every. Little. Thing!
Here are two of my Nestlings! They turned me into a mummy after
reading Mummies in the Morning.
Seriously, why do apples get such little attention? You can do more with an apple than you can a pumpkin. Can you pick up a pumpkin and take a bite? You can't throw a pumpkin in your lunch or eat one for a snack after school. Apples come in so many more varieties than pumpkins too.

After I said all that about apples....I keep buying EVERY pumpkin flavored food available. True story.

By the way Trader Joe's has about a million pumpkin flavored foods. Pumpkin is yummy and it makes a much better latte than apples. Sadly, I have to drive a whole hour to get to the nearest Trader Joe's. I'm pretty sure my community could support a TJs!

Finally, I want to say that every time one of my kiddos calls me mom I feel that I have created a safe place for them to learn and grow. Who makes us feel safer than mom?

Now I'm going to try to visit and comment on every other Currently. Thanks for such a great party, Farley!

Waiting for Currently!! Apple Freebie!

All day long I've been planning on linking up with Farley for Currently October...where is that post!? Does she know how many of us depend on her to give us a jump start to get our blog writing engines going? I've been thinking all day about how excited I am to sit on my couch without feeling like I should be doing something else besides just sitting on the couch. Here I sit waiting for Farley's inspiration.

Are you waiting too? While you're waiting take a look at what we did today...
Can you identify the three apples we compared? As many times as I've studied apples, I still believe it is one of my favorite units of study. My readers are busy reading about apples

We're writing poetry about apples...

Apples here and apples there,
Apples apples everywhere
They hang on trees and sit in stores
We like to eat them to their very cores
We eat them sour and we eat them sweet
We think most apples are a yummy treat!

We dissected apples, compared apples, and contrasted apples. We tasted apples and graphed their seeds.

I've looked at apples from both sides now. I have to admit that my favorite thing to do with apples is eat them!
Obviously, this kid has had too many apples!

I did say freebie in the title, but I expected you read every word in this post to find the word FREEBIE again! Here it is...I may have shared it before....but it IS newly improved!
Click on the picture below to go to TPT to snag your fee copy!! No TPT account? Leave a comment with your e-mail and I'll send it to you!

Currently: No Freebie and No Giveaway!

I did my first "Currently" last month...It was so much fun that I think I'm going to have to do it EVERY month. Thank you Farley for hosting such great fun!!  Farley is also sharing templates for all of our kiddos to do their own currentlies or currentlys . . .Grammar police help me out on this one! What a great idea for sending home as a family activity monthly, or to put in your writing centers.
So here's mine...

It is so cold that we have to run the furnace. At the football game last night we froze. Winter coats, blankets and hats were musts unless you are my 13 year old daughter and wearing a coat, even if it's below zero is fashion no-no. Blue lips must be the fashion with that age group!

I wish I had no place to go all day, but I will be going to a walk that honors the little girl my daughter was friends with and I had the honor of teaching who died of a brain aneurysm this summer. It has been a difficult time for our school, but we have gotten to the place where we can talk about her and laugh over fun times we had with her. I was blessed to know Malauri and my life is richer for knowing her.

Do you insist on your children using pencils? I've noticed that when I let them use markers they write more. They enjoy writing more. I rarely use a pencil anymore for writing. I do most of it on a computer. Why not give them a choice as to what to write with? I'm excited to try this out next week. Maybe you all already do that and I'm just figuring it out, but I'm pretty excited over this idea!

I think that these books by National Geographic are AMAZING! I would like them all. If you work for the company that makes these awesome books...I am accepting donations! I want all of them. I bought this apple book and used it during our apple unit. These non-fiction texts would be a great addition to any k-3 classroom or library. I'll leave you with one of my favorite pictures in the book...

I found the mistake on my "Currently" did you? It's too late to do anything about it now!!
